Creative Workshop: Decoding the Opera "Book of Mountains and Seas"

Buy Tickets

Book of Mountains and Seas has intrigued scholars from numerous fields all the time as they try to decode history, science and culture. Composer Huang Ruo describes the project's genesis, the juxtaposition of ancient myth with our contemporary world, and how he adapts four of its stories into a music-theatre work. Apart from sharing the context of this work, he also explains the use of unusual percussion instruments (waterphones, Tibetan finger cymbals) and puppets. The audience can have a closer look at how modern puppetry combines magically with staging.
